Well, so far, "we" have lucked out in my local area with no more than about an inch of snow, the photo below was New Years Day a few years ago and I wouldn't have to drive more than an hour to see this kind of pile today.



I'm in the Great Lakes region but we got rain when everyone else got snow. Then on the cold windy days the "lake effect" was going the "other way" dumping across the lake.

Anyway, I'm not complaining about the lack of snow, I see right now on the radar that there's a whack of that white s... in areas of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. This one might just get "us"

Another swath of that white stuff and another surge for car accident lawyers and auto insurance agents, There will be accidents, injuries and insurance damage claims.

I know it was wishful thinking but I really hoped that the snow was finished for the winter but it looks like I'm in for another bout of shoveling my windrow.

Take care if you have to drive in the stuff, leave early, keep lots of room between you and the other guy and . . . SLOW DOWN!

Winter is not over yet but we are getting a few nice days in a row.

ABOVE FREEZING ! ! !



For at least a couple of days I can go outside wearing a sweater instead of a heavy winter coat although there is a lot of rain accompanying the warmer weather.

Finally, I can stop making trails in the yard for my dog,



I can see if there are any cars coming as I back out of my driveway.




For those fortunate enough not to know what a "Windrow" is . . . it's that pile of white s#!% at the end of your driveway that the snow plow guy so meticulously piles up mixed with salt and slush at 2:00 in the morning which turns into a frozen chunk of ICE Four Feet Tall and Six Feet Wide hours later when you have to leave very quickly.



This was the bottom of my driveway two weeks ago!

Sometimes it seems like the snow plow guy is watching and when he sees that you have finished shoveling the driveway and gone back inside, he comes back with another huge pile of snow and slush (I don't even know where he gets it from) and deposits it so once again you can't possibly remove a car from your driveway.

Then a nice steak on the BBQ when I get home with a cold beer of course.

Ahhh . . . Summer



Oh yeah, I gotta go shovel the driveway, The coldest air of the season is settling in for a few days and the still slushy snow is very quickly freezing into crackling crunchy ice and that can be pretty wicked to walk on when the driveway is not flat.

Stay indoors for the next few days if you can (in northern areas) Exposed skin can freeze in just a few minutes in the right conditions. If you must go out, drive to the conditions. Give yourself extra time if weather is a concern.

Well, it's here. The snow has arrived and ten minutes into my first flurry a car spun out in front of me as I was turning through an intersection.



The driver looked like he saw a ghost, he did a 180 and was facing me (driving a truck right at him) when he stopped.

Winter driving is much different than warm weather driving with some obvious hazards but sometimes there are hidden hazards as well such as "black ice". Black ice is a thin layer of ice that forms on the road that is invisible and causes a tremendous number of accidents each year (mostly vehicles in the ditch).

Whenever the temps drop below or even near freezing drivers must adjust their driving habits to suit the conditions. SLOW DOWN, LEAVE MORE DISTANCE BETWEEN VEHICLES and PREPARE TO STOP SOONER.

It's official! My picture made it in the USA Today full-page colour ad for Subaru of America, Friday April 25, 2008. It will be republished on Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

Well, the snow that we got this weekend is so rare it's supposed to only happen twice a century. Because of that, I'm re-posting this picture from last year. Boy, was that fun!

The other reason why I'm posting it again is because that picture has now become my very first picture ever to be published for money :biggrin:

Look for it as part of a Subaru of America ad campaign appearing on April 25 and April 30, 2008 in the USA Today.

This picture is from back in January--the day after I took the COLD STI picture :LOL:. We had a Snow Day (the first in almost 10 years) but I still had to go to work. I drove through a snow drift during my morning commute--whoo, hoo!--and didn't even realize that the front lip had broken until afterwards.

Has anyone else had it with this winter?

I heard on the news today that there has been snow in Toronto 42 days so far this winter and now we have this massive winter storm from Friday afternoon through the whole day Saturday to contend with.

Enough already, I have a six foot high pile of dirty grey ice at the bottom of my driveway already without this storm dropping another foot of snow to be shoveled on top of the heavy slush the snow plow is kind enough to leave me.

The snow plow driver must like me, he always leaves me a lot more than any of my neighbors, Maybe it's because I'm on the corner of a busy 4 lane road and a side street and when they "round the corner" the bulk ends up in my driveway.

My neighbor will have a little pile maybe a foot high and two feet wide, I walk out and see a pile in my driveway three feet high and six feet wide. My neighbors laugh about it, xxxholes!

WITH a snowblower it takes me 45 minutes to make a hole big enough for my car to get out cause it's usually refrozen icy slush and too high for the snow blower to bite.

Maybe I should move, get away from the corner, maybe to Ft. Lauderdale or Datona, I don't think the plow driver can push it that far.

With daytime highs reaching almost 30 Celsius, this weekend was the first really hot weather we've had (considering it's still spring). Today, I'm dreaming of the snow-time fun I had just a few months ago.

After talking about the rain storm we had with the warm temperatures on Monday, yesterday temperatures dropped and we had snow! It didn't last but it was enough to cover everything with white slushy snow for the afternoon. And to think I was contemplating putting the summer tires back on.

So in that spirit, here's one more winter picture that I took last year shortly after buying the STI.
